CLW Sports Quota Recruitment 2026

Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), a production unit of Indian Railways under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has released Employment Notice No. GMA/Rectt.&MPP/Sports Quota/2026-2027 dated 20 July 2026, inviting applications from eligible Indian National sportspersons for recruitment against Sports Quota (Open Advertisement and Talent Scouting) at CLW, Chittaranjan, West Bengal. A total of 25 vacancies are notified across Level-1, Level-2 and Level-5/4 posts in the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, spanning 15 discipline and event categories including Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Swimming and Shooting. The application process opened on 21 July 2026 and closes on 20 August 2026 at 17:00 hrs for most candidates (extended to 31 August 2026 at 17:00 hrs for candidates from specified North-Eastern and hill states/UTs and those residing abroad). There is no online application portal – candidates must apply offline in the prescribed format and send the application by post or drop it in the Drop Box at CLW. Selection is based on Sports Trial (40 marks), Assessment of Sports Achievements (50 marks), and Educational Qualification (10 marks), with no reservation of any kind – selection is purely merit-based.

Important Note: Five things that every applying sportsperson must read before filling the form. First, this is an offline recruitment only – there is no online application portal. The application must be filled by hand in the prescribed Annexure A format and sent by post (or dropped in the Drop Box at CLW) to reach the Chief Personnel Officer, CLW, Chittaranjan before the closing date and time; late applications are rejected without exception and the railway administration is not responsible for postal delays. Second, the age limit of 18 to 25 years is reckoned as on 01-01-2026 as stated in the eligibility section of the notification, with no age relaxation for any category including SC/ST/OBC/PwBD. Third, only sports achievements on or after 01-04-2024 are counted based on the concluding day of the championship – achievements before this date will not be considered. Fourth, up to 3 candidates under the Talent Scouting Quota (those who have represented India in the Olympics or in any Category-B Championship, or secured at least 3rd position in a Category-B Championship within the last 6 months) may be considered without a Sports Trial and with relaxation of educational qualification – if no such candidate is found suitable, all 25 posts will be filled under the Open Advertisement norms. Fifth, candidates are advised to monitor clw.indianrailways.gov.in regularly for the Sports Trial date, time and venue, which will be announced on the website and sent via call letter – the railway administration is not responsible for non-receipt of call letters.

Applications are open to Indian Nationals who are currently active sportspersons and have fulfilled the prescribed minimum sports achievement norms on or after 01-04-2024 (based on the concluding day of the championship). Candidates awaiting final examination results of the prescribed educational qualification are not eligible and should not apply.

Selection Process

Selection is entirely merit-based with no reservation or community-wise relaxation of any kind. The Selection Committee assesses candidates on the following components:

Note: Candidates who score less than 25 marks in the Sports Trial are declared “Not FIT” and are not considered for the overall aggregate, regardless of marks in other components.

Sports achievements of the current and previous 2 years (2024-2025, 2025-2026 and 2026-2027) are considered, with only achievements on or after 01-04-2024 counted.

Talent Scouting Quota

Up to 3 candidates who have represented India in the Olympics, or in any Category-B Championship, or secured at least 3rd position in a Category-B Championship within the last 6 months from the notice date, may be considered under Talent Scouting without a Sports Trial and with relaxation of educational qualification (as per RBE 189(B)/2010 Para 6.3). If no such candidate is found suitable, all 25 posts are filled through the Open Advertisement norms.


How to Apply for CLW Sports Quota Recruitment 2026

  1. Download the official Employment Notice from the CLW website – Click Here
  2. Carefully read the entire notification before filling the application.
  3. Fill the application in the prescribed Annexure A format in your own handwriting, in English or Hindi, using a blue or black ball-point pen on good-quality A4-size white paper.
  4. Write the sample declaration in your own handwriting in the space provided – applications without this written declaration will be rejected.
  5. Affix one recent colour passport-size photograph (taken within one month, white background, no cap or coloured glasses); send 2 signed photographs with the application and keep at least 5 more for future use.
  6. Enclose legible photocopies of all certificates – educational qualification, age proof, caste certificate (if applicable), and sports achievement certificates – attested by a Gazetted Officer or self-attested.
  7. Enclose the application fee (IPO or DD in favour of “PFA, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works”, payable at Chittaranjan); applications without the fee will be rejected.
  8. Clearly indicate the Specific Category Number, Sports Discipline and Event/Position as given in the vacancy table on the application.
  9. Write on the top of the envelope: “APPLICATION AGAINST SPORTS QUOTA (OPEN ADVERTISEMENT AND TALENT SCOUTING) RECRUITMENT FOR THE YEAR 2026-2027.”

Important Instructions

  • Eligible candidates will receive call letters through the CLW website, email and mobile number within 20 days from the closing date – candidates must also monitor clw.indianrailways.gov.in regularly as the administration is not responsible for non-receipt of call letters; candidates should report on the date published on the website even if a call letter has not been received.
  • SC/ST candidates are entitled to free Second Class rail travel for attending the Sports Trial and interview.
  • Selected candidates must pass the requisite medical fitness standard prior to appointment.
  • The list of rejected applications will be published on clw.indianrailways.gov.in – no other rejection intimation will be sent.
  • Participation certificates and medal certificates on letterheads are not considered – only certificates issued by recognized National/International Sports bodies will be accepted.
  • For Golf (Men), sportspersons with an I.G.U. ranking of 1-20 with a single handicap of less than 10 are also eligible. Selected Golf players may participate in professional tournaments only after completing 5 years of service, with NOC from the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB).
  • For Shooting, the All India G.V. Mavlankar Shooting Championship is not a recognized championship and performance in it will not be considered.
  • Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification from the recruitment process.
  • CLW has not appointed any agents or coaching centres – candidates should report any false claims by unscrupulous persons to the Chief Personnel Officer or SDGM and Chief Vigilance Officer, CLW.
  • Any dispute is subject to the jurisdiction of the High Court of Calcutta.
