1. General English (Paper-I)
Grammar, Composition, Comprehension, Essay Writing, Precis Writing.

2. General Knowledge (Paper-I)
General awareness on current affairs, current events of state and national importance, important historical events of state and national importance.

3. Agriculture (Paper-II)
Agriculture – definition, introduction, importance and scope; Organic farming – definition, components, advantages/disadvantages, certification and scope; Classification of crops and effect of weather parameters on crop growth; Cultivation types, tillage, tilth, water requirement, irrigation methods, weeds and control, cropping systems (crop rotation, relay cropping, mixed cropping, multi-storied cropping); Soil types, physical properties, composition, decomposition, and effect of organic matter on fertility; Essential plant nutrients, their functions and deficiency symptoms; Extension – definition, objectives, functions, principles; Plant protection – classification of insects/pests/diseases, management of cereal/pulse/oilseed crop pests and diseases, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Integrated Disease Management (IDM); Natural farming – definition, principles, crop management, bio-input production; farm machinery/mechanization.

4. Horticulture (Paper-II)
Horticulture – definition, importance, scope and types; Classification of horticultural plants; Soil and climatic requirements, nursery raising and management; Propagation methods (budding, grafting, layering), training and pruning, orchard planning and layout, cultivation package of practices for summer/winter vegetables, fruits and flowers; Post-harvest management – pre-harvest and post-harvest factors, maturity indices; Processing of fruits and vegetables – jam, jelly, marmalade, pickle preparation and judging end-point; Tools and implements used in horticulture; Plant breeding – principles, breeding of field and horticultural crops, commercial plant breeding, genetics, breeding methods, plant biotechnology and tissue culture.


How to Prepare for SPSC VLW Exam 2026
