Selection Process
There is NO written examination and NO interview for this recruitment. Selection is entirely merit-based.
Stage 1 – Merit List Preparation:
A computerized merit list is prepared unit-wise, trade-wise and community-wise based on the average of the percentage marks scored in:
- Class 10/Matriculation examination: 50% weightage
- ITI (relevant trade): 50% weightage
The merit list is prepared in descending order of average weightage marks. Candidates to the extent of 1.5 times the notified slots are shortlisted for document verification.
Tie-breaking rule:
- If two candidates have the same average marks, the candidate with the older age (earlier date of birth) will be given preference.
- If both date of birth and average marks are identical, the candidate who passed Matriculation earlier will be given preference.
Stage 2 – Document Verification:
Shortlisted candidates (up to 1.5 times the slots) are called for verification of original certificates and testimonials. Candidature is subject to all documents being found genuine and complete.
Stage 3 – Medical Fitness Examination:
All candidates who clear document verification must undergo a medical fitness examination. Only medically fit candidates are finally engaged as Act Apprentices.
Final merit list is prepared equal to the number of notified slots, unit-wise, trade-wise and community-wise, based on average weightage marks of shortlisted and medically fit candidates.
Monthly Stipend During Training
Apprentices are NOT regular railway employees and are not entitled to any allowances such as DA, HRA or TA. The monthly stipend is paid as per the Apprentices Act, 1961 and Railway Board instructions:
| ITI Duration | Approximate Monthly Stipend |
|---|---|
| 1-year ITI trade | Approx. Rs. 7,000 per month |
| 2-year ITI trade | Approx. Rs. 8,050 per month |
Stipend amounts are approximate and subject to revision as per Railway Board and State Government rules. Verify exact stipend from the official engagement letter.
