- Enrolled in any State Medical Register
- Completed compulsory rotating internship
- Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in the related specialty (Section A or B, Schedule I, Indian Medical Council Act, 1956) or equivalent
- Doctorate of Medicine (DM) or Magister Chirurgiae (MCh) or equivalent, with 3 years of experience in the concerned super-specialty after obtaining the first PG degree (Senior Residency period also counted)
- Permanent registration from MCI or NMC or State Medical Council before appointment
Specialist Medical Officers (Deputy Commandant)
- Recognised medical qualification of Allopathic system of medicine (First or Second Schedule, or Part-II of Third Schedule excluding licentiate qualifications, of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956)

Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP) Scheme
Under DACP, time-scale financial upgradation is granted without linkage to vacancy based on years of regular service in each pay level. Medical Officers progress from Level-10 upward to Level-14 over approximately 20 years of regular service through prescribed service periods in each level, with corresponding rank progressions from Deputy Commandant through Commandant.
PG Course Provision
Medical Officers who complete 5 years of regular service may apply for the PG entrance examination as per applicable instructions.
Selection Process
Stage 1 – Documentation
Candidates with valid applications are issued e-Admit Cards specifying the date, time and venue for Documentation and Interview. At this stage, candidates must produce original testimonials and one set of self-attested copies. Candidates without original documents may not be permitted to enter the recruitment centre.

Height relaxation of 2 cm applies for candidates from Gorkhas, Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas, and specified northeastern states, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir region and Ladakh. Height relaxation of 3 cm applies for Scheduled Tribe candidates.
Stage 4 – Medical Examination Test (MET)
Candidates who pass PST undergo medical examination by a Board of Medical Officers of CAPFs and AR. Vision standards: Better eye 6/6 or 6/9, Worse eye 6/12 or 6/9 (corrected). Hypermetropia up to +3.50DS, Myopia up to -4.5DS including Astigmatism. Lasik surgery is permitted subject to conditions including 6-month interval post-surgery, corneal thickness at least 425 microns and pre-Lasik error up to 6D. No Radial Keratotomy or other refractive surgery permitted. Candidates must be free from knock-knees, flat foot, squint and any condition likely to interfere with official duties.
Candidates declared unfit may opt for a Review Medical Examination (RME) within 24 hours of being informed.
Force Preference
Candidates for Specialist Medical Officer and Medical Officer posts must indicate their order of preference for all CAPFs (BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB) and Assam Rifles in the online application form. This preference, once submitted, is final and cannot be changed.
