What PLVs Do: Duties and Responsibilities
Para Legal Volunteers perform a vital grassroots role in the legal aid and access-to-justice ecosystem. Their duties include:
- Educating people about their Constitutional and legal rights
- Making people aware of the nature of their disputes, issues and problems
- Visiting Police Stations and ensuring that arrested persons get legal assistance if necessary
- Assisting victims of crime in getting proper compensation
- Visiting Children’s Homes and Observation Homes and providing legal services to inmates
- Generating awareness among people about the benefits of settlement of disputes through Lok Adalats, Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration
