UPPSC RO ARO Syllabus 2026 - Prelims & Mains Exam Pattern

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducts the Review Officer (Samiksha Adhikari) and Assistant Review Officer (Sahayak Samiksha Adhikari) examination under Advertisement No. A-4/E-1/2026 for 501 vacancies. The selection process has two written stages — a Preliminary Examination and a Main Examination — followed by an applicable skill or typing test. Candidates should read the full syllabus and exam pattern before planning their preparation.

Important Note

1. The Preliminary Examination has 200 MCQ questions for 200 marks in 3 hours, with negative marking of 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer — manage time carefully and avoid blind guessing.

2. The Mains Examination carries 400 marks across 4 papers and includes a conventional Hindi Essay paper (120 marks, 3 hours) and an official drafting and correspondence section — candidates must practise written Hindi regularly alongside MCQ preparation.

3. General Studies in the Prelims includes a dedicated section on Uttar Pradesh — its education, culture, agriculture, industry, trade and social traditions — study UP-specific topics separately.

How to Prepare for UPPSC RO ARO Exam 2026

  • Plan separately for Prelims and Mains. The Prelims filters candidates with a 200-mark MCQ test; the Mains tests writing, drafting and Hindi in depth. Start with the Prelims syllabus, then shift to Mains writing practice after the Prelims.
  • Give UP-specific GK dedicated study time. A distinct section on Uttar Pradesh — covering education, culture, agriculture, industry, trade and social traditions — appears in General Studies. Most candidates underweight this area.
  • Practise Hindi grammar for both stages. Synonyms, antonyms, sentence correction and one-word substitutions appear in the Prelims. Official drafting, Précis writing, idioms and vocabulary appear in the Mains. Hindi skills need consistent daily practice.
  • Handle negative marking in Prelims carefully. At 1/3 mark per wrong answer, a wrong attempt on 3 questions wipes out 1 correct answer. Do not guess randomly.
  • Prepare administrative Hindi for the drafting section. Office Memorandums, Circulars, Reminders and government correspondence have standard formats. Study these formats and practise writing them from scratch.
  • Build essay-writing stamina. The Hindi Essay paper requires 3 full essays in 3 hours. Practise under timed conditions on current affairs, social issues, environment and development topics.
  • Solve previous-year UPPSC RO ARO question papers to understand question style, difficulty and frequently tested topics in both stages.
