Job Responsibilities for Visiting Health Inspector

The Visiting Health Inspector will work under the administrative control of the University Administration or Controlling Officer, with responsibilities spread across six defined areas.

The first area covers routine and surprise health audits, requiring a minimum of twice-monthly comprehensive scheduled and surprise inspections across hostel messes, wet canteens, commercial kiosks, kitchens, residential quarters, academic blocks and perimeter campus areas, along with inspection of drinking water filtration systems, overhead and underground water tanks, drainage lines, waste collection hubs and sanitary facilities.

The second area covers food safety and mess hygiene surveillance, involving audits of food preparation, serving and storage zones in accordance with FSSAI guidelines, monitoring of raw grocery freshness, expiry dates, cold chain integrity, cooking oil reuse limits and utensil dishwashing practices, along with enforcement of personal hygiene standards, routine medical fitness screenings and compulsory protective gear for mess and canteen staff.

The third area covers integrated pest management and vector control, including formulating and supervising IPM protocols targeting mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and rodents, overseeing anti-stagnation measures, oil-spraying and larvicidal treatments, and inspecting physical exclusion barriers such as fly-killers, wire meshes and sealed food containers.

The fourth area covers reporting, accountability and vendor compliance, requiring submission of detailed health and sanitation audit reports with time-bound corrective action plans within 48 hours of each inspection, along with implementation of a point-based Hygiene Rating Scorecard for food facility contractors.

The fifth area covers preventive health awareness and training, involving periodic capacity-building workshops for mess workers and food contractors, and assisting the University in organising preventive health campaigns for resident students.

The sixth area covers general duties related to public health, campus hygiene and environmental sanitation as assigned by the Competent Authority, including identification of health and sanitation hazards with remedial recommendations, submission of periodic inspection reports, and advising the University on preventive health, sanitation and hygiene measures.

How to Apply for RGNAU Recruitment 2026

Candidates who wish to apply are required to submit their application online through the University’s designated online application portal, following the instructions given therein, before the last date of application. The last date for submission of the online application is November 6, 2026.

After submitting the online application, candidates need to retain a hard copy printout of the online application form along with copies of all certificates covering educational qualification, experience, testimonials and other requisite documents supporting their eligibility, since these are required to be submitted at the time of the interview if the candidate is shortlisted.

Applicants are advised to visit the official University website regularly for any updates, corrigendum or interview date announcements related to this recruitment.

Important Terms and Conditions

Candidates should note several important conditions that apply to these engagements. The University reserves the right to fill or not fill any or all of the advertised posts, to withdraw the advertisement either partly or wholly at any time without assigning a reason, and to increase or decrease the number of vacancies.

Candidates must produce original certificates relating to age, qualifications, experience and category at the time of appearing for the interview, and must be physically present for the interview on the prescribed date and time, since no request for change in the interview schedule will be entertained. Incomplete applications will be outrightly rejected, and experience, age and qualifications will be reckoned as on the closing date of submission of the application form.

Meeting the minimum qualification does not automatically entitle an applicant to be called for the selection process, as the University reserves the right to shortlist applicants as it considers appropriate in case of a large number of applications, and no reason for rejection will be communicated.

These engagements are purely on a contract basis, and persons appointed will not have any right to be absorbed in any permanent post in the University, nor will they be conferred any seniority in any grade. No DA, HRA, PF, Pension, Insurance, Gratuity, Seniority, Promotion, LTC, Medical claim or Education allowances are admissible for contractual engagement under the University, and no TA or DA is payable for joining the engagement.

Key Points to Remember

Candidates should note that these are visiting, part-time contractual engagements structured around a single weekly visit of two hours rather than full-time positions, so the remuneration quoted is on a per-visit basis and not a monthly salary. Since the total service including extensions cannot exceed three years under any circumstances, candidates should evaluate this as a defined-term professional engagement rather than a long-term career position. Candidates should also retain the printout of their online application along with all supporting documents, as these must be produced at the interview stage if shortlisted.
